The warrant of 1768 specified that the First or Kings Color of every regiment was to be the Great Union. The second color was specified as being the regimental facing color. Regiments with red or white facings were to have the cross of St. George and the Union flag in the upper left canton. Those with black facings the same but over a black field. In the center of each color was a wreath of roses or thistles around the regimental number in Roman Numerals. Those regiments with ancient devices were allowed to display them.

Flags were in approximately 2 meters on the fly.
