Here are some shots of our Heavy Batteries
for the armies of the War of the Spanish Succession. All are in 25/28 mm
scale. |
BAVARIA:
This is my rather small Bavarian Battery
of 8lb guns. This can represent 8 to 12 guns, and I'm not sure that the
Bavarian army ever used more than this in the field. There is also a 4
wheeled ammunition cart in the rear. |
ENGLAND/BRITAIN:
This is Colonel Blood's battery from Blenheim
(can you think of a better name for an artillery commander?). From front
to rear of the shot is a 12lb battery, howitzer and two 9lb batteries.
Limbers and wagons in the rear - and Colonel Blood i in the center. Some
of these will see action in our Ramillies game - yet to be played. |
HANNOVER
/ HESSEN KASSEL:
This is a combined batter of 12lb guns
from Hessen Kassel and Calenberg-Hanover. Limber and Ammunition wagons
are in the rear. |
Schiesswagen:
This scratch built model is based on a
drawing in Khun and also in Anthony Kemp's Weapons and Equipment of the
Marlborough Wars. There are no details of if and when it was used - but
I expect it to see action in our Ramillies game next year. In the rear
is a regimental piece for Celle-Lunenburg regiments. |
FRANCE:
This is a fairly large battery of French
guns, from front top rear - two 24lbers, a howitzer and four 8 lbers, with
limbers and ammunition wagons in the rear. |
Frence's
three-barrelled guns:
I modified three foundry 6lb guns to build
this French contraption, but since doing so, I have received some photographs
of the actual pieces captured at Malplaquet, no residing in the Artillery
Museum in Woolich, and it is quite a bit smaller. Consequently, I am going
to build a new one and relegate this piece to a fantasy role in some other
non historical game. I did find designs for a piece f thi size, but apparently,
they were used only in a naval role. |
I am currently working on a large heavy
battery of 24lb Dutch guns (6 stands) to reduce Ramillies in next year's
game. There are also various light gun stands of galloper and other small
guns. |
